My name is Emma-Claire Johnson, but most people call me EC. I am 19, from North Carolina, and currently studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. In high school, I was both a student athlete and a musician, but I quickly found my path in an elective fashion class and knew immediately that design was where I wanted to be in the future. As a student athlete, having an outlet in an activity I loved taught me a strong work ethic, a sense of belonging, and passion for whatever I put my mind to. This love for sports motivated me to work harder to find a way to merge my passion for art with my enthusiasm for athletics, aiming to build a career that I can be proud of and leave a mark on.

I have worked at vineyards while in school, designed websites, done commissioned artwork, and taken on various smaller projects as I’m just starting in the field. I’m constantly involved in different areas of work. As a child, I was a paid actor in a seasonal regional theater program called “A Beautiful Star” at the Triad Stage. I played a regular cast member, Myrtle Ledbetter, for three years, performing alongside adult Broadway actors and participating in dress rehearsals and table reads. I also played in the band on stage during these performances, having played the violin for 12 years.
The structural discipline of playing an instrument as a main study in high school led me to discover my calling in fashion design. While swimming competitively year-round and in summer leagues, I gained discipline, a supportive environment to explore myself, and the freedom to continue a sport I enjoy while building a name for myself in the industry.
In addition to my design experience, I worked as a camp counselor for three years, managing groups of children aged 6 to 14. My responsibilities included leading activities, lifeguarding, responding to emergencies, and managing 20+ group members. I eventually advanced to the role of activity specialist, being one of two on campus at all times. This role was more than just a summer job; as a young camper, I developed lasting friendships and partnerships and gained a deeper understanding of leadership under constantly changing circumstances. My strong work ethic and adaptability from these experiences have prepared me well for future opportunities in the workforce.
